AI for manufacturers, starting in the office.

For most manufacturers, the first wins from AI aren’t on the factory floor. They’re in orders, invoicing and production paperwork. We find them, check the tools are safe to use, and help your team put them to work.

Where AI saves time.

What to get right first.

Your recipes and data

Formulations, specifications, prices and customer details are your business. We check which tools would see them, and where that data goes.

Accuracy

A wrong quantity on an order becomes a wrong production run. AI should check and prepare, with a person approving anything that matters.

Your existing systems

AI has to fit the ERP, MRP, accounts and spreadsheets you already run, not the other way round.

AI review of the admin function for a food manufacturer

The business makes traditional baked snacks and employs around 60 people. Its admin function handles orders, sales and invoicing, and produces the cook and wrapping lists that tell the factory what to make. Leadership wanted to know where AI could make that work quicker and more reliable.

What we did

James spent a day alongside the admin lead, following real work through order intake and entry, sales and invoicing, and the business's own process for producing cook and wrapping lists for the factory staff.

We mapped where the time went, where errors crept in and had to be put right, and which steps AI could take on, with a person checking anything important. Alongside the review, James ran one-to-one AI training with the CEO, focused on leadership work.

What we found

  • Order intake and entry, sales and invoicing all had steps that AI could take on or speed up
  • The bespoke process for producing cook and wrapping lists was a strong candidate for automation
  • Errors in manual steps were causing rework that AI-assisted checks could reduce

Questions manufacturers ask us.

  • Where should a manufacturer start with AI?

Usually in the office rather than on the factory floor. Order entry, invoicing and production paperwork are repetitive and rule-based, and often involve retyping, so that’s where AI saves time soonest. Uses on the factory floor come later, once the basics work.

  • How much time could we save?

It depends on your processes. For a 60-person food manufacturer, we found 11 to 22 hours a week in the admin function alone, along with less rework from errors.

  • Will it work with our ERP, MRP or accounts system?

Often, yes. Many systems can be connected directly, and where they can’t, AI can still prepare the data for a person to check and import. We look at what your systems allow before recommending anything.

  • Is it safe to put our recipes, specifications and customer data into AI tools?

With the right tools and settings, it can be. Business versions of the main AI tools can be set so your data isn’t used to train their models, and some can keep it in the UK or EU. Free personal versions often can’t. An AI health check shows which your people are using.

  • Do we need an IT department?

No. We work with whoever runs the processes today, and recommend tools your team can look after themselves.
